Ophthalmic Registered Nurse
Parkersburg, WV
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team at Retina Consultants in Parkersburg, WV. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, assessing patient needs, and assisting the physicians in the practice with the examination and care of new and established patients. They will be working in both the office and in the hospital operating room (in Charleston), when surgery is performed under general or local anesthesia.
Responsibilities
- Assist physician in exam rooms and laser rooms.
- Advises patient of procedure, his/her physical condition requiring such a procedure and risks involved with the procedure.
- Assist physician with in-office procedures, Steroid injections, intraocular injections and laser treatment.
- Accountable for administration of IV procedures in a safe and accurate manner
- Injects Visudyne for Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) laser treatment
- Injects Fluorescein dye and ICG I.V. for angiography test.
- Provide consultation to patients over the telephone after speaking to physician.
- Schedule surgery at St. Francis Hospital
- Obtain data for history and physical exam and schedule pre-operative exam with the patient’s primary care physician/staff physician.
- Perform the pre-operative teaching.
- Schedule procedures and admissions with respective hospital departments.
- Administers eye drop medications pursuant to physician order and documents on patient chart.
- Orders and maintains supplies.
- Provides guidance to other staff members.
- Maintains patient’s rights to privacy by not discussing privileged information outside work areas or within hearing range of visitors or family.
- Function within the legal limits of nursing practice.
- Provide support for nurses and staff in the other offices.
- Demonstrates regard for the dignity and respect of all patients, family members, and coworkers.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patient information at all times.
- Follow policies and procedures outlined in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Compliance Program.
Experience
- Must be a graduate of a college or university and/or accredited school of nursing.
- Must hold a current license from the WV State Board of Nursing to practice as a registered nurse (RN) or a licensed practical nurse (LPN) in the State of WV.
- Previous experience in operating rooms (OR) or similar environments is advantageous.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a member of a team in all offices.
- Effective oral skills to communicate with physicians, patients, and health insurance company personnel.
