Mining Engineer - Longwall Coal Mine

Birmingham, AL

A growing mining company based in Birmingham, Alabama is seeking a full-time Mining Engineer with at least three (3) years of proven and results oriented experience.  The company seeks an experienced Mining Engineer specialized in the engineering of operating systems for a Longwall Coal Mine. The focus of this role will be on optimizing the efficiency, safety, and productivity of our longwall mining operations through superior engineering of operational systems.

 Key Responsibilities:

  •  System Engineering: Design and engineer operational systems to enhance mining efficiency, focusing on automation, control systems, and data-driven decision-making processes.
  • Longwall Planning and Design: Use SurvCad for detailed mine design. Responsibilities include updating mine maps, integrating system designs with physical layouts, and ensuring all mining activities are accurately represented in engineering plans.
  • Mine Timing and System Integration: Develop timing strategies that integrate with the operational systems for optimal sequencing of mining activities.
  • Operational Support: Refine operational systems and engineer mining process improvements.
  • Data Analysis for System Optimization: Analyze operational data from various systems to drive improvements in productivity, cost efficiency, and safety.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure that all engineered systems contribute to safety enhancements. Lead in developing system-based safety protocols.
  • Project Management: Lead projects aimed at upgrading or introducing new operational systems, ensuring integration with existing mining processes, and meeting project deadlines.

 Qualifications:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field with a focus on operational systems.
  • Proven experience (3-5 years) in engineering systems for underground coal mining, with a preference for longwall operations.
  • Skills in SurvCad and other relevant mining and systems engineering software.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities with a focus on systems engineering.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing and to be well organized.
  • Ability to meet the physical and environmental demands of the position.

Compensation:  The base compensation will be determined and commensurate based upon experience level. This position will also be eligible for performance bonuses based upon achievement of company and position goals.
