Assistant County Administrator

Are you a public sector leader ready to shape the future of county government?  Monongalia, WV is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Assistant County Administrator to help lead operations across all departments and support the County Administrator in delivering high-quality services to our residents in collaboration with other County Elected Officials.

This leadership role provides hands-on involvement in budgeting, finance, many other areas of operational oversight, compliance, strategic planning, and countywide initiatives. Work is performed under the general supervision of the County Administrator and requires a high degree of initiative, independent judgment, and confidentiality. What You’ll Do:

  • Support all county operations and serve as an acting County Administrator when needed
  • Help manage the county’s operating and capital budgets
  • Coordinate departments to ensure compliance with WV Code and county policies
  • Lead special projects, strategic planning efforts, audits, and performance improvement programs
  • Draft reports, ordinances, resolutions, and policy recommendations
  • Serve as liaison with elected officials, departments, community partners, and residents
  • Assist with labor relations, employee relations, and grant administration
  • Support emergency response and continuity planning

What You Bring:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration/Management, or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive management experience in a dynamic work environments
  • Strong leadership, communication, analytical, conflict resolution, finance, and organizational skills
  • Proficient in technical capabilities, including Microsoft Office applications, especially with Excel, and other software applications
  • Demonstrated effective and efficient project and team management experience.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree (MPA or similar)
  • County, municipal, or public sector government experience
  • Budget, labor relations, and grant management expertise
