Research Scientist/Technician

Wheeling, WV

A growing research, design, and manufacturing company, located in the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia close to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, seeks a full-time, on-site team member to serve as a Research Scientist/Technician within its Research & Development (R&D) group.  The company is looking for talented and highly skilled team members who are ambitious self-starters with high energy.  This is a big opportunity for the right person.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of processes needed to achieve manufacturing capability
  • Equipment assembly and maintenance, fixture fabrication, process testing support, material evaluation, and routine data analysis
  • Basic electrical wiring and machining work as needed
  • Ability to use microscopes, scales, calipers, and other analytical equipment
  • Support proposal writing to secure new government research funding
  • Coordinate and interact with vendors and machine shops as needed

The position has the potential to grow into a prominent role within a future spin-out business based on inventions and product development.  The R&D group functions as a business incubator wherein the technologies developed eventually end up as a stand-alone business. 

Qualifications: 

  • A.S./B.S. in an engineering or science field with 1+ years of relevant experience (i.e., manufacturing, or product development) or 5+ years of relevant experience without a degree
  • The ability to be “hands-on”, along with creative problem-solving skills and the ability to implement solutions, are a must
  • The ideal candidate must work well in a team environment, collaborating with researchers
  • Must be well organized and be able to communicate (verbally and written)
  • Must be able to accurately manage one’s own activities to meet project deadlines
  • Must have a positive and team-oriented attitude
