​Senior Landscape Architect

Charleston, WV

A growing regional engineering firm is looking for a dynamic and creative full-time Senior Landscape Architect and Project Manger to help support and lead projects and design work for various projects and clients within the states and regions served.  This position is based in its Charleston, WV office.  This position is also an opportunity to lead the Landscape Architecture division of the region and be in a key management and leadership role within the firm.

The LA department of the firm has many projects that are centered in parks and recreation design, outdoor activities and tourism, and bicycle and pedestrian improvements.  Typical clients include the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources, West Virginia Department of Transportation, and many state, county and municipal agencies.  Typical projects include RV campgrounds, boat ramps and public access sites, rail-trails and greenways, sidewalks, and streetscapes, among many other site-civil projects.

The licensed landscape architect would be responsible for managing complex projects and team members in all project phases from coordinating conceptual design through contract documents and construction administration. This position will create budget estimates for planning and construction purposes, includes creating studies and reports and will lead team members in preparing drawings, plans and models and integrating site-civil and LA elements. This position will support and oversee other landscape architect team members as needed or directed and will be responsible for timely and efficient project management processes.

Job Requirements:

1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Landscape Architecture is required. 

2. Proven experience (15+ years) in landscape architecture design and project management.

3. Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, Civil 3D, and other relevant design software.

4. Thorough understanding of local building codes, zoning regulations, and environmental guidelines.

5. Excellent communication and presentation skills for client interactions and team collaboration.

6. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, ensuring high-quality deliverables.

7. Leadership skills with the ability to inspire and guide a team towards project success.

8. Professional licensure as a Landscape Architect in WV is required or willing to obtain WV license reciprocity within three (3) months of employment. 

9.  Perform other related duties as assigned or directed.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Lead and manage landscape architecture projects from conception to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.

2. Collaborate with clients to understand their vision, translating it into innovative and sustainable landscape designs.

3. Oversee project teams, providing guidance and mentorship to junior designers, landscape architects, and support staff.

4. Conduct site analysis and assessments, considering environmental factors, regulations, and client preferences.

5. Develop comprehensive design plans, including site layouts, hardscape, grading and drainage, planting, and erosion control plans.

6. Manage project documentation, including drawings, specifications, and contracts, to ensure accuracy and compliance.

7. Coordinate with external consultants, contractors, and vendors to facilitate seamless project execution.

8. Stay abreast of industry trends, sustainability practices, and relevant technologies to enhance design processes.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

1. Expertise in sustainable design practices and environmental stewardship.

2. Proficient in project budgeting, cost estimation, and financial management.

3. Strong conceptual and spatial design abilities with a keen eye for detail.

4. In-depth knowledge of plant materials, construction techniques, and site engineering.

5. Familiarity with 3D modeling, GIS, and computer graphic tools for enhanced project visualization.

6. Ability to navigate complex permitting processes and regulatory requirements.

Physical Demands:

1. Ability to conduct site visits, involving walking, standing, and exposure to varying weather conditions.

2. Capability to lift and carry equipment and materials as needed during fieldwork.

3. Mobility to inspect project sites and ensure design implementation.
